The Chakana
Crafting the Chakana Necklace was a deeply spiritual journey, infused with the rich symbolism of the Andean cross, known as the Chakana. This ancient motif, with its stepped cross design, holds profound significance in Inca and pre-Incan Andean cultures, representing the connection between the earthly and spiritual realms, as well as the harmonious balance of opposites.
The necklace, especially long in length, was meticulously crafted with sandalwood, smoky quartz, and obsidian beads, each chosen for their unique properties and energies. Sandalwood, revered for its grounding and soothing qualities, serves as the foundation of the necklace, anchoring the wearer to the present moment and promoting inner peace. Smoky quartz, with its protective and cleansing properties, offers a shield of spiritual protection, while obsidian, known as the "stone of truth," encourages self-reflection and inner strength.
At the heart of the necklace lies the Chakana pendant, handcrafted from obsidian in Peru, the land of its origin. This sacred stone, formed from volcanic lava and steeped in ancient tradition, adds a powerful dimension to the necklace, imbuing it with the energy of the Andean mountains and the wisdom of the ancient Incas.
As I worked on each element of this necklace, I felt a deep reverence for the ancient wisdom it represents, weaving together threads of tradition and spirituality into a tangible form. The size is fixed.
